Abstract:The general Motors Research Laboratories has a technology transfer program which stresses the transfer of capabilities rather than products. Thus, in this program the primary component is people. Technical reviews as well as frequent discussions among managers are essential for technology transfer. One of the most expedient ways to transfer capabilities is by the physical transfer of personnel who have acquired specific expertise in the technology. Technology transfer engineers have become "centers of technology" at the divisional unit and have shared their expertise through consulting or formal training programs.
