Abstract:Introduced by IBM in 1984, COBOL II is slowly becoming the standard for COBOL programming. Many companies have begun converting VS COBOL programs to COBOL II and writing new programs in COBOL II. An effective transition to COBOL II requires standards that reflect the company's needs and take into account subtle compiler idiosyncrasies. Some implementation types for conversion are suggested. It must be kept in mind that COBOL II allows for much more than just changing one statement to another. The advantages of COBOL II are discussed. Some questions regarding new features are raised.
