Abstract:This paper explores the impact of organizational characteristics (decision authority and environmental uncertainty) on nurses' psychological work reactions (job satisfaction and intrinsic work motivation) focusing on the congruence between decision authority and environmental uncertainty. The applied framework is the contingency approach of organizations. The results indicate that decision authority has a positive influence on intrinsic motivation, and that this effect is enhanced by high environmental uncertainty. However, the congruence between decision authority and environmental uncertainty in the prediction of burnout and health complaints was not confirmed.
