| Abstract: | The call for multinational corporations to consider moral concerns is not misty-eyed idealism. It is common sense, and it is necessary. There are many reasons for this. First, laws in many host coutries are little better than a joke. Without central authority to enforce laws - without, that is, some form of international government - even international law is doomed to marginal relevance. Since most people regard the idea of world government as global baloney, optimism about international law seems misplaced. A second force propelling international business ethics is the environmental imperative. A third factor underscoring the importance of international business ethics is the historical demise of autocratic socialist regimes in Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union. |
