Abstract: | Two experiments tested an information-processing model of causal judgment proposed by D.L.Hamilton, P.D.Grubb, et al. (1990). In Experiment 1 the explanatory quality of context information pertaining to a behavioral event was varied independently of its implications for internal or external causality. In Experiment 2 perceivers performed tasks requiring either item-specific elaboration or relational encoding of the information in addition to making external versus internal causal attributions. |
