Abstract:What is a tier, anyway? Tier is an abstract concept, a way of organizing. It is usually not something physical. A tier consists of the collection of hardware and software which corresponds to a level of processing in your general system design. Thus, the number of tiers is determined by (and a defining feature of) your system design.
