Abstract: | This paper studies an economic model of the dynamic spread of an infectious disease, contrasting its implications in terms of the occurrence of the disease itself, as well as the effects of public health interventions, with those of mathematical epidemiology. Thus, this paper presents an economic analysis of communicable disease and its private and public control, focusing on the most feared and discussed such disease of the 20th century -- the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) that cause Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). |
