Abstract:Surprisingly seasonal and other retail "sales" have been neglected within marketing literature, although they have given impact on brand/store images, profit margins, supplier -retailer relationships and consumer behavior. Researchers have been interested in the effects of comparison price advertising on consumer behavior since 1980. This study attempts to draw together from the field of consumer psychology a wide range of research and concepts relevant to the "sales" problem. There is a major gap within the marketing literature but the work undertaken has brough up more questions than answers.
