Abstract: | This paper reviews the history of the social scientific study of leadership and the theories of leadership enjoying empirical support, and demonstrates that the development has been cumulative. The contributions of trait, behavioral, contingency and neocharismatic paradigms and the results of empirical research of prevailing theories are identified. The paper describes issues that warrant research in each of the paradigms and theories. |
