| Abstract: | We often think of organizational forms in terms of archetypes, or pure forms, despite the fact that pure forms rarely exist in reality. This paper explores "mixed mode" forms, which blend components of classic organizational designs. Through various cases, the authors illustrate how markets and hierarchies coexist and how new information technologies facilitate development of these blended forms. |
