Abstract: | Revelers had good reason to sing "Auld Lang Syne" this New Year's. In 1997, nearly every industry reaped the benefits of a roaring economy - but the outlook for 1998 is considerably less ebullient. It's shaping up to be a good year for airplane builders and a not-so-good one for bankers and auto makers. Software companies will be desperate for skilled workers in 1998, while steelmakers will cut jobs. Retailers will have a tough time prying dollars out of consumers' wallets despite the economy's continued growth. |
