Abstract: | This paper provides a theoretical and empirical analysis of the incentives introduced by disease-specific mortality interventions. More precisely, the authors discuss predictions about health investment incentives, as implied by the competing risk model, which is the empirical framework almost exclusively used to study multiple-case mortality. The authors show that important complementary effects between multiple causes of death operate to equalize the occurrence of the causes. |
