Abstract:This article examines career communities (hereafter as: CCs), which have been defined as 'self-organizing member-defined social structures through which people draw career support' (Parker, 2000). From the theoretical literature three propositions are suggested: CCs provide career support, facilitate sensemaking and both individual and communal learning. The article concludes that CCs are useful and provide a valuable function.
