Abstract:It is drawn on the social and behavioral sciences to specify the nature and microfoundations of the capabilities needed to sustain superiour enterprise performance in an open economy with quick innovation and globally dispersed sources of innovation, invention, and manufacturing capability. Dynamic capabilities (here as: dyn-capbs.) enable business enterprises to create, deploy, and protect their intangible assets. The microfoundations of dyn-capbs., that is, the skills, processes, procedures, organizational structures, decision rules etc. are difficult to deploy and develop. Companies with strong dyn-capbs. are intensely entrepreneurial, shaping through innovation and through collaboration with other companies etc.
