Abstract:This article studies the BBC comedy series The Office from the viewpoint of gender performativity. The paper suggests that The Office criticises the heteronormativity of management configuration and can be read as a parody of gender performativity. The comedy and the critical potential of the series is seen to build on the ways it mocks and disturbs the performativity of management, and by means of comedy it brings relief to heteronormative ways of understanding and enacting gender within the management and organization environment.
