Abstract:In this paper, management and international business (IB) literatures are linked through addressing intrinsic drivers, that is, management commitment to ethics (here as: m-c-to-e.) in conjunction with extrinsic, trade-related drivers for both foreign- and domestically-owned firms in a single-market setting. Based on survey data from 121 Mexican auto parts suppliers, it is found that m-c-to-e. is a dominant driver of corporate social performance (CSP) among both foreign and domestic firms. More importantly, m-c-to-e. interacts positively with trade-related pressures in raising CSP levels.
