Abstract:Workforce reduction has become a common HRM practice recently. However, its implications on many organizational outcomes is still unclear. The article studies the relationship between different types of workforce downsizing and organizational innovativeness. A survey of UK companies was conducted to investigate this matter. The findings suggest that the effect of employee downsizing on innovation is contingent on the speed of implementation and the motive for downsizing. The results indicate that the size of workforce downsizing doesn't have a particular impact on innovation.
