| Abstract: | Longitudinal studies of growth and decline with regard to the administrative component of organizations indicate the existence of a ratching effect of the administrative component which cannot be explained by the size construct alone. An analysis of this phenomenon is presented using results of previous empirical studies, and a conceptual model of factors influencing the growth and decline of the administrative component is proposed. The directions of additional research of the administrative component using longitudinal research design to verify empirically the ratchet phenomenon is also discussed. |
