Abstract:On the basis of strike statistics it is argued that Northern Ireland (NI) has more harmonious industrial relations climate than Great Britain. A series of investigations comparing their strike patterns by independent researchers, the Ministry of Labour, the Commission on Industrial Relations in UK and the Department of Economic Development and the Department of Employment in NI indicated an opposite picture. Despite of different industrial structure /NI has no coal mining or iron and steel manufacturing industries, two of the most strike-prone industries in GB/, the number of recorded strike incidences per hundred thousand employees in NI has exceeded the UK average in every year since 1958, with the exception of 1972.
