Abstract: | Two dimensions of organization-environment relations have promoted much research among scholars in business strategy. One is the fit between a firms strategy and the environment is which it operates. The other dimension is managements role in shaping a firms direction, i. e. whether managerial choice or environmental forces determine a firm's success and its survival. The debate has developed through empirical and conceptual analysis of either argument, but not both. Hrebiniak and Joyce made a challenging proposition concerning both strategy-environment fit and managerial choice. |
