| Abstract: | Changes that occur in the production environment as a result of the implementation of Computer Integrated Manufacturing /CIM/ systems are identified. A comparative study of two engineering companies implementing CIM is presented revealing that these systems encourage changes in organizational structure. Argument is made for the need of changes in how the production manager organizes production. That CIM facilitates a move away from functionally based organization towards team working based around production processes, is pointed out. |
