Abstract: | Nonlinear network applications arise in a variety of contexts, like hydroelectric power system scheduling, financial planning, matrix balancing estimation in economics, air-traffic control, personnel scheduling, and electric circuit analysis. A variety of network problems is surveyed, especially those with nonlinear cost structure. Particular emphasis is placed on large-scale implementations. Specialized nonlinear network programming software is typically an order of magnitude faster than general purpose codes. The development of algorithms and software for the solution of large network problems is discussed, as well as the impact of computer architectures. |
