Abstract: | Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is a linear-programming-based technique that converts multiple input and output measures into a single comprehensive measure of productive efficiency. The method is based on the construction of an empirically based production frontier and on the identification of peer groups. The paper rely on theories of decision making, measurement and control, the mathematical properties of the DEA, earlier applications and the authors' experience. The authors argue that the many factors determine the strength and limitations of DEA. |
