Abstract:Faced with multiple challenges, organizations have to become more flexible and adaptable. To survive, the flexible organization needs to be much more responsive to the various groups that have an interest in it. The best organizations are transitioning from functional bureaucracies to more flexible forms that are flatter and based upon team work. Facilitating processes are replacing procedures. The boundary of the organization is becoming blurred as electronic links are developed forward to customers, backwards to suppliers and sideways to business partners.
