| Abstract: | Some possible effects of the forthcoming single European market are examined. Particular attention is paid to the exports and direct industrial investments of the USA and Japan as they could be a fairly good measure od market attractiveness. The figures for 1988 are presented and analyzed using survey data for the most important industries. The development of these economic activities between 1984 and 1988 is described. The results of an empirical research into the strategy of American and Japanese multinational companies in the Common Market are reported. Some important differences between the behaviour of the American and Japanese companies are demonstrated. |
