Abstract:Mergers and acquisitions have been an extremely popular growth and diversification strategy among executives. It is shown how an understanding of the concepts and issues associated with organizational and individual habitual domains can improve the analysis of acquisition alternatives. The importance of a more comprehensive analysis of acquisitions that goes beyond an examination of just financial and economic issues is stressed. Arguments are presented that a consideration of human aspect is also important not only in pre-acquisition analysis but also in how the acquisition is to be eventually implemented. A framework is developed as an aid to this analysis. The potential costs and the net synergistic benefits are considered.
