Abstract:By the year 2020 Thailand could be the world's eighth biggest economy - bigger than Italy, France, the UK, Russia and Brazil. This sort of talk - based on World Bank data and repeated in the Economist at the end of 1995 might still be a bit strong for many observers, yet even the most sceptical cannot deny that the kingdom's economic expansion has been remarkable, and in a remarkably short space of time. Finding out how a country once seen as an arch-laggard became - just in a decade - one of the world's most vibrant economies is important to anyone hoping to jump on this business bandwagon.
