Abstract:Politicians' spending clashes with the need for fiscal discipline -- this is the main point of research of the present article. Thailand's economy, for years one of the fastest-growing in the world, is starting to slow down. The Bank of Thailand reckons that gross domestic product will expand just 7.8% this year, the slowest growth in a decade. Worried that the economy was overheating last year, the central bank put on the brakes in an effort to curb mounting inflation and bring the country's ballooning current-account deficit under control.
