Abstract:Asia has experienced remarkable economic growth in recent years. The progressive urbanization, industrialization, and motorization that accompany such growth have dramatically changed lifestyles, but they have also generated numerous social problems. The urban transport situation facing major Asian cities today is just one. This article, based on the author's living in Thailand, discusses Bangkok's urban transport dilemma - considered to be among the world's worst - and the Thai government's response.
