Abstract:New economy organizations are externalizing their human resource infrastructures to an unprecended degree. More and more of the human resource management (HRM) infrastructure for company employees is being provided by agents outside the firm. Contingency workers are being brought into organizations on a temporary basis, usually supported by outside agents. To accomplish business goals, interfirm alliances are springing up in which some HRM work can be done on a cooperative basis, shared and coordinated by the companies in the alliance. This practice also moves HRM work outside corporation. HRM service porviders must be recognized as an increasingly integrated system, the supra-organizational HRM system.
