Abstract: | The article contributes to the economics literature on entrepreneurship (henceforth as: e-ship). This article offers a new measure of e-ship accounting for variations in persistence in self-employment and avoiding a weakness of some approaches. Outlined is an econometric methodology to account for this approach. It is found to be superiour to probit/logit models dominating the literature. It is found that entrepreneurial (here as: e-pral.) persistence is determined by a different model and uncover some new insights. Early self-employment encourages e-pral. persistence. For men, inheritance encourages persistence, facilitating initial self-employment. However, early experience of unemployment does not affect the probability of self-employment, while reducing persistence. |
