Abstract:The strategic decision taken by an organization to relocate a crucial part of its productive operation on a "greenfield" site is examined. Whilst the corporate factors which most influenced the decision are outlined and discussed, the intention here is to concentrate upon industrial relations considerations. The decision taken is perhaps typical of a more general tendency among large organizations, evidenced in recent years,to initiate changes and reforms aimed at achieving greater stability and control in their industrial relations arrangements and in their relationships with employees generally.
