Abstract:The authors of the article state that the ability to lead organizations is a critical element in every chief executive officer's portfolio. As the environment becomes more and more turbulent and the interdependence of businesses grows, it is difficult for one person to develop the needed competencies to become an effective CEO. The idea of aligning an organization's core competencies and its CEOs competencies is not new, but the identification of the best fit has proven elusive. The author analyses the demands placed upon today's CEO and states that it is no wonder why many CEOs fail.
