Abstract:Due to the escalating costs at home, the political pressure from USA and Europe, the myth of the Japanese automakers seems to be over: crash in the stock exchange, decreases of sales, losses are the signs of crisis of the 9 firms. Although the problems of Toyota, Honda and others are considerable, there is no reason for the Europeans to underestimate the Japanese. Some experts forecast that in two years at the latest they will get out of the crisis and they will be then stronger than ever. The efforts of the Japanese automobile firms aim at cost reduction, modernization of productive capacities and expansion of their foreign production plants.
