Abstract:Volvo and Saab drove erratically through the first half of the 1990s and Japanese and German competitors successfully attacked them in their biggest market, U.S. Both companies face an uncertain future: they dont fill any obvious unmet customer need, and they are burdened by high costs, poor financial performance and tiny home market. Their biggest assets are their names but they are competing against even bigger names. By leaving behind their Swedish roots and adopting international designs Volvo and Saab are on the right track.
