Abstract:The European automotive industry is characterized by over- capacity, stagnation or decline in many volume segments, as well as by the ambitious unit sales targets of most of the manufacturers. Because of the significant cost reductions realized in recent years, the great challenge now lies in exploiting the existing profit potential as much as possible through an optimal pricing strategy which precludes a price war. Concrete recommendations are given for these aims. For instance, a decision support model is presented which allows the determination of the optimal price differences between various makes, models, and body variants.
