Abstract: | Japanese automotive suppliers display certain advantages in product development speed and productivity, making them strong competitors for European suppliers, who in the past enjoyed a secure position as the traditional partners of the European assemblers. Most previous publications on this topic focused on quantifying the comparison between European and Japanese assemblers and suppliers. Some studies analyzed the causes for the Japanese advantages, identifying strong project management and formal tools such as cost planning and Quality Function Deployment (QFD). This work reports on the redesign of product development process through the implementation of Process Orientated Organization, Quality Function Deployment and Target Costing at a leading European supplier of vehicle thermal management systems. |
