Abstract:Lean production is a system that was developed by Toyota Motor Co. and is best known in the automobile industry. The system has gained the reputation of being superior to the American mass production system. It typically results in a 50 percent reduction of human effort, manufacturing space, tool investment, and product development time , and an improvement in quality. Gelman Sciences is well on its way to achieving world class status through the use of lean production concepts and cell oriented continuous improvement teams.
