Abstract:The main claims of this article are that Spanish banks are the emerging powerhouses of European banking. Fusing starkly different cultures, the merged Banco Santander Central Hispano has brought quick gains in efficiency and profits. It avoided inner turmoil by deciding on the management before announcing the deal. It has knitted Santander entrepreneurship into tighter structure, consolidated the Latin American francise, strenghtened European alliances and deepened its management.
