Abstract:Employee turnover is troublesome and costly. To shed new light on the underlying causes, the turnover in light of Likert's "linking pin" concept of management-subordinates relationships is examined. Several possible sources of turnover problems are identified and examined. An initial approach for each of them is presented. A practical guide is offered to help all managers become high-performance linking-pins. In addition, executives should have accurate, comprehensive turnover data to determine whether the organization has a "real" turnover problem.
