Abstract:This paper deals with the dynamics underlying the consumption (hereafter as: cons.) of new commodities, especially mobile phones, based on a research project on households' first-time acquisition of new consumer goods. The paper aims 1. to reveal some important cons. dynamics at work on the micro level, and 2. to investigate how respondent families use new technologies, and how these are eventually integrated into gradual changes of everyday life (here as: e-life). The study illustrates the deep embeddedness of cons. drives in the considerations, themes etc., showing few signs of satiation in the short term. In addition, the findings on domestication indicate that some environmentally costly trends in e-life. appear to continue.
