Abstract: | In this study, a general understanding of the evolution of the Western World commercial communication satellite supply industry is developed. The industry is classified as an oligopoly (here as: o-poly.) with the vendors as price setters. Using hedonic regression approach, the customer's willingness-to-pay (WTP) for characteristics is calculated. Exploring the relationship btw. price and complexity, it is shown that in the short run, the o-poly. structure is accompanied by a simple form of cost plus price setting. In the long run, however, the engineering satellite pricing 'rule of thumb' applies. |
