Abstract:The authors consider how companies can manage corporate social responsibility (CSR) related “bad episodes”. A conceptual model is introduced. According to the model there are three “regulators” which affect the significance of the episode and a CSR Critical Incident goes though these “regulators”. Three responsive strategies are then introduced and examined. The authors present a case study consisting of three cases, which reflect an environmental disaster, difficulties concerning business ethics and issues regarding human rights. The authors identify possible responsive strategies for managers when dealing with corporate image threats and public trust losses.
