Abstract:Based on a cross-cultural analysis of communication of CSR activities in 16 U.S. and European corporations, this article investigates corporate social responsibility (CSR) and whether there can be found differences in the types of CSR initiatives between EU and U.S. companies. Findings implicates that EU companies do not value sustainability to the exclusion of financial elements but incorporate both elements when justifying CSR activities whereas U.S. companies give more attention to solely financial justifications. Wide variance was found in prevalence and the use of specific CSR-related terminology.
