Abstract:A theory of corporate social responsibility (CSR) is presented in the form of the private provision of public goods and private redistribution by a firm. There are three explanations for compensation systems encompassing social performance: 1. Consumers may reward the firm for its social expenditures (here as: soc.exps.), 2. managers may have personal preferences for contributing to social causes, 3. the shareholder clientele a firm attracts may prefer soc-exps. Social and profit incentives are higher powered the more consumers reward the firm. In addition, there are more reported results in detail.
