Abstract:Executives, scholars, activists, and community leaders are calling for companies to get more accountable for the impact of their activities on external stakeholders (henceforth as: s-h/s). However, managers must first understand the causes of conflict with local communities (here as: commts.), and commts. have to realize the ways of action available to challenge activities seen as harmful to their interests. This article presents a framework for exploring the factors contributing to multinational and community conflict incl. s-h/s. power inequality, s-h/s. perception gaps and cultural context. Moreover, described are some of the ways for commts. to increase their leverage in the case of conflict.
