Abstract:The article argues prior research on the impact of internationalization on company performance volatility to be inconsistent, and aims to contribute to it by suggesting a two dimension theoretical framework for the examination of the effects of internationalization. A sample of 320 U.S. companies are studied, and the empirical results indicate that increasing international operations results in reduced volatility of company performance. The global integration dimension of an MNC network configuration appears to increase dispersion in performance. The findings of the article provide evidence on the multidimensional nature of companies' international operations.
