| Abstract: | The debate on international competitiveness has focused, in Austria, on the country's "auxiliary" pay costs. It has been claimed that these costs are too high. The debate has been hindered by problems of definition. A new study indicates that these costs may not be a key factor in determining competitiveness, and highlights the problem of definition and the problems of international comparisons of labour costs and pay statistics. |
