| Abstract: | The expected cost of using a repair replacement policy for the period (0,tÅ is defined in terms of an integral equation and an asymptotic approximation to this expected cost is also obtained. In general, this integral equation cannot be solved analytically but a number of accurate and easily implemented techniques are available for its numerical solutions. The policy involving imperfect repair on failure with replacement after N failures is taken as an illustrative example and optimal policies N * are found for both infinite and finite time horizons of use. |
