Abstract: | This article studies the connection between work and leisure for professional employees. Through an empirical study of premier health club use, the paper argues that professional employees are often working on a "project of the self", in which being physically fit forms an important part of one's professional identity. The point is made that working in the city is what motivates premier club use, and the concept of workstyle is introduced to be used in this context instead of the concept of lifestyle. Premier club use is not seen as a leisure activity but rather a work-related activity. |
